Role Description:
The Responsible Individual is the professional face of the organisation to both Ofsted and external stakeholders and provides senior leadership, regulatory oversight, driving the quality of care in line with the Children’s Home Quality Standards and support to our managers and their homes.
The RI is to ensure that all of our homes are well led, compliant, effective and provide a nurturing and safe environment for our young people to achieve positive outcomes.
The RI is instrumental in developing a culture of excellence, promoting diversity and equality and demonstrating a strong ethical vision in line with the company ethos and strategic direction. They must demonstrate ethical leadership, transparency and professionalism at all times.
Strategic Leadership & Oversight
Provide leadership for our registered children’s homes
Support our managers with regular supervision and professional development
Challenge and guide managers constructively to ensure compliance, safe practice and strong leadership
Address promptly any concerns around compliance, performance and safeguarding promptly and effectively
Promote a culture of high expectations and accountability
Compliance
Ensure all homes comply with the Children’s Homes Regulations
Ensure that all homes are working to Ofsted requirements and that notifications are accurate and within given timescales
Review and oversee Regulation 44 independent visit reports
Conduct internal audits and ensure action plans are implemented, developed and monitored
Oversee the development and implementation of company policies and procedures
Safeguarding
Oversight of safeguarding across all homes
Ensure safeguarding concerns, allegations, complaints and incidents are managed appropriately and consistently
Oversee the use of physical intervention within the homes ensuring they are lawful, proportionate and reviewed
Support managers to create a nurturing and safe environment to allow our young people to thrive
External Stakeholders
Provide a professional representation of the company to all external stakeholders and act as a senior point of contact
Support homes during inspections with Ofsted and other external organisations and ensure that outcomes are reviewed and appropriate development is in place and monitored following inspections and monitoring visits
Represent the company at external meetings in a professional manner at all times
Effectively liaise with local authorities for new admissions and ongoing placement communication
Oversee and support managers with admissions, transitions and discharges
Workforce Development
Ensure recruitment, inductions, training and supervisions are effective, compliant and consistent
Promote a culture of inclusiveness and positivity
Ensure staff wellbeing and retention are prioritised
Support managers to implement fair and robust management processes
Support the company with future growth and new provisions
Requirements:
Required: GCSE or equivalent English & Maths
Required: Residential Childcare UK experience minimum 5 years
Required: NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
Preferred: Experience as a previous Responsible Individual
Preferred: Experience as a previous Ofsted Registered Manager
Excellent understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted Inspection Framework
Motivated and able to inspire and lead others
Strong sense of safeguarding and commitment to promoting the welfare of children and young people
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
